The beauty of not knowing

As a person who's been very much unsure of the way life takes its twists and turns, I have always struggled with the issue of not knowing exactly what life or the future in this case has in store for me. I believe I am not alone in this and just to be clear, this post/blog does not contain the answer on how to know.

But before you decide to close the page and move on to the next link or meme, hear me out first.  No matter how good knowing what's coming next is, it's a never-ending rat race that only keeps going on and on until we use the number of days we have on Earth. Why do I say so, well if, for example, you got to know how tomorrow will be like in great detail, it would be perfectly fine for some time up until you start to think about the day after that and even if you got to know how the day after will be like, it will again get boring like this running sentence and you would want more.

This is by far a generic human trend, we are never satisfied. Yes, we can fool ourselves into thinking that a little goes a long way but once that little becomes insufficient we always aim for more. And the cycle continues. And instead of solving our crisis of knowledge, it makes it worse.

So maybe just maybe, not knowing what the future holds is the best thing that could happen to us. This, in a sense, gives us a clean slate to do as we like and see the fruits of today's random actions become something we are either proud of or very much embarrassed by. And instead of focusing on tomorrow, it allows us to fully enjoy today because tomorrow is never promised.

I'm not saying don't plan for your future or live on the edge today, I am saying enjoy what today has to offer, you might not get it again tomorrow. None of us are getting any younger, and if you are Benjamin Button, then consider yourself lucky.

A good example is when you look back to your childhood or the time you were growing up and in primary school. Life was easy, you didn't have to worry about much just your homework and whether or not you could go to your friend's house to play and if your mom was going to make your favourite meal. At that time you may have looked forward to growing up and becoming yourself, but now that you are your self you have a feeling that those innocent days were better or that the life you lived in University was more than today's 9-5 workweek.

In the end, you wish you could have done more. And that's perfectly fine to feel that way. But don't let that rule your day... you have more to live for today than tomorrow could ever promise.
