For the unknown horizons...

For the unknown horizons...

One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists, called “Chimwe neChimwe” by Jah Prayzah, narrates the story of how everything in this life has its own time and place. Just a side note, very early into this op-ed, I think the visuals to the whole song and subsequent videos are breathtaking to say the least. The story telling itself is just something to behold.

But I digress, the whole point of relating to this very specific song is the simple fact that the two main characters, a husband, and a wife, are now on the cusp of building a new life together in hopes of supporting their child. And with the troubles that come with living in any country where basic necessities are never basic👀, they have to make the wife, makes the hard decision of going to find work in the big city to support the family. And obviously there are so many hidden undertones for our friends the social justice warriors to do their due diligence on but that will not be the focus here.

To be honest, the fact here is simply the main storyline, after a major life achievement of getting married, people always assume it's a happy ever after situation. Yet it rarely is. And with that transition comes the realization that with every single transition in this mishmash called life, we are prune to facing opposing forces. Be it moving from one job to another, getting married, becoming self-dependent or in my current state, looking at what happens after I finish this degree, there is always opposition. There is always a bleak outlook at some points that supersedes the known horizon of joy.

And that's okay. It's necessary but it's not kind but it's a tell-tale sign of growth. Hopefully, growth in the right direction and self-actualization. Without these forces, we won't have stories to tell our grandkids about how we had to walk 10 kilometers through the icy winter of Manicaland, wadding through treacherous rivers and running away from wild animals just to get to school (we should make an animated series on how our grandparents got to school, for the culture).

So, keep on keeping on, enjoy every moment you are in, for those are the ones with the most meaning on this blue ball of water...
